چکیده

The corneal topographer is an indispensable tool and plays a critical role in the practice of refractive surgery. In corneal refractive surgery, corneal topography is used preoperatively to detect irregular astigmatism, ectatic corneal disorders, or other abnormalities, and to monitor topographic stability following discontinuation of contact lens wear. Postoperatively, it is used to monitor and assess the surgical outcomes, detect the causes of visual symptoms, and refine and develop surgical techniques for retreatment. 1. Examining the corneal topography carefully is a necessity for a successful corneal ablation procedure like in PRK, LASEK, EpiLASIK and LASIK. 2. However it must be understood that when performing a corneal topography, the anterior surface of the cornea is NOT measured but the anterior surface of the tear film. 3. In this study the topography of the tear film was studied in detail and the topography of this film is called the TOPOFILM.

Corneal regeneration after laser in-situ keratomileusis: wound healing process and visual outcomes

Laser in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is a widely performed refractive surgical procedure that provides excellent visual outcomes. Creation of the flap and stromal ablation disrupt corneal integrity and alter its function. Damaged epithelial cells release cytokines and growth factors that interact with stromal keratocytes to trigger the regeneration process. However, these interactions under the...

Optical coherence tomography accurately measures corneal power change from laser refractive surgery.

PURPOSE To determine the ability of motion-corrected optical coherence tomography (OCT) to measure the corneal refractive power change due to LASIK. DESIGN Evaluation of a diagnostic test or technology in a cohort. SUBJECTS A total of 70 eyes from 37 subjects undergoing LASIK were measured preoperatively. A total of 39 eyes from 22 subjects were measured postoperatively and completed the st...

Dry eye disease after refractive surgery: comparative outcomes of small incision lenticule extraction versus LASIK.

PURPOSE To compare small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) versus LASIK for post-refractive dry eye disease. DESIGN Prospective, comparative, nonrandomized clinical study. PARTICIPANTS Thirty patients scheduled for bilateral myopic SMILE and 30 age-, sex-, and refraction-matched patients scheduled for bilateral myopic LASIK were enrolled and followed for 6 months after the surgery. ME...

[Posterior polymorphous dystrophy and LASIK].

OBJECTIVE/METHOD A 50-year-old hyperopic woman requested information about refractive surgery. Vesicle and band lesions at Descemet's membrane and endothelium were suggestive of posterior polymorphous dystrophy (PPD). Lower than normal endothelial cell densities were detected. A corneal refractive procedure was not recommended in this case. RESULTS/CONCLUSIONS The presence of vesicles and ban...

LASIK and PRK in hyperopic astigmatic eyes: is early retreatment advisable?

PURPOSE To analyze the refractive and keratometric stability in hyperopic astigmatic laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) or photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) during the first 6 months after surgery. PATIENTS AND METHODS This retrospective cross-sectional study included 97 hyperopic eyes; 55 were treated with LASIK and 42 with PRK. Excimer ablation for all eyes was performed using the ALLEGRE...
